With the success of YCDTOTV in the United States, Nickelodeon was looking for any way to continue to promote it's highest-rated program. In 1984, the network began it's annual "Slime-In" competition, which had kids across America sending in postcards as entries. The winner was flown to the set of YCDTOTV in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, where he or she would interact with the cast and participate in a YCDTOTV taping. A similar competition was later held on Canada's YTV called the "Slime Light Sweepstakes."
